Meet William Conrad — a creative force whose thoughtful presence and everyday rituals have captured the attention of many. In our latest conversation, William opens up about meeting his fiancée Levi, the quiet joy he’s found through cooking, and the personal style choices that reflect his sense of ease and expression. We also talk about his favourite local haunts — from hidden cafés to markets — and what’s on the horizon, including garden projects, long lunches, and more time spent outdoors.
1. Of course our first question has to be, how did you and Levi meet?
We met how so many couples now do, on a dating app. We both had our location set to a city neither of us were actually in, which I guess was fate doing its thing. I sent what might’ve been a slightly overly excited message to Levi, and got no response. So I took a chance and followed up. Thankfully, she replied.
2. You’ve been described as a “stay-at-home boyfriend,” which is iconic.
Or we should be saying “stay-at-home fiancé?” How does it feel to have such a personal rhythm and way of life spotlighted so publicly?
It’s funny, because none of it feels performative. I love our life. I take care of our home, I cook, I do the quiet stuff. I also know that what we’re doing looks different to a lot of people, and I think that’s part of why it resonates. I hope it shows other couples, especially men, that there’s more than one way to be in a relationship. You can build something soft, balanced and strong. If seeing us helps someone feel like they can have that too, then that means a lot.
3. Cooking seems to be at the heart of your world.
How did you first get into it? Was it something you grew up with, or something you found later?
Levi gave me the space to really discover, hone, and practice the art of cooking. I always enjoyed it, but it wasn’t until I was cooking for her daily and intentionally that it started to mean something deeper. It became less about making meals and more about expressing my love. Now it’s a core part of who I am.
4. Let’s talk fashion — you wear your clothes effortlessly.
What pieces do you return to again and again? Are there any designers, brands or eras that influence how you dress?
I love a blend of preppy and older 70s aesthetic. I’m a tall, lanky guy so pants can be a challenge, but I’m a sucker for a high-rise flared pant. I love my Acne flared jeans, paired with a Bloom belt of course. I feel that cut really suits my body. Recently discovered Husbands Paris and have been obsessed. I just got my first suit from them and I can’t wait to keep building a wardrobe with their pieces.
5. We mostly see you at home of course. What are some of your go-to’s outside — cafes, restaurants, stores, bars?
We’re not really drinkers, so the bar scene isn’t our thing, but we’re big on cafés and quiet restaurants with exceptional food. One of our favorite meals of late was at a little spot called Dreyfus. We had these leeks that we still talk about. We like places that feel like someone’s passion project, where every detail is intentional. I’m also a sucker for an amazing grocery store.
6. And finally, what’s next for you?
Anything you’re working on or dreaming about that we can look forward to?
Getting outside. Where we live, we’re basically housebound for half the year, so now that the sun’s out I want to take full advantage. We’ve started a small garden and I can already feel my thumb shifting a few shades greener. I’ll be cooking as much as I can outside too.
